Meet Dr. Todd Brown

Todd Brown

Helping others has always been a source of pride for me, and seeing people learn, heal, and grow brings a deep sense of satisfaction to my work. I have been exposed to a variety of challenges across diverse settings—small towns, big cities; economically secure communities and those that are struggling; and high-stress academic and corporate environments.

Before exploring psychology, I spent eight years as a technology and management consultant in the entertainment industries of Los Angeles and Hollywood. Despite my successes, I felt that something was missing, and I left to explore what that might be.

I was on a quest for a career that resonated with my values and provided a sense of fulfillment—not only to myself but to others. Becoming a licensed psychologist in California and New York checked those boxes. Focusing first on children and teens, I aimed to provide viable solutions to the stress that they and their parents face during the transformative years of growth. Over time, I expanded my scope to include adults navigating their own life stressors. No matter the age, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation, I am passionate about guiding people toward relief, resilience, and empowerment.

Professional Background

I graduated from Stanford University and embarked on my initial career before enrolling at Pepperdine University to obtain my master’s degree in psychology. From there, I attended UCLA, where I conducted research, taught undergraduate courses, and completed my education on the way to earning my PhD in clinical psychology.

Throughout my educational journey, I received comprehensive training across various settings. These include the UCLA Psychology Clinic, UCLA Pediatric OCD IOP, Harbor-UCLA Adult Outpatient Clinic, UCLA Gender Health Program, NYU Langone Child Study Center, NYC Bellevue Hospital (including adolescent PHP and inpatient facilities), and the OCD & Anxiety Program of Southern California.

A Compassionate Approach To Therapy

My primary focus lies in treating OCD, anxiety, and depressive disorders, and I work with kids, teens, and adults alike. I have always sought to treat anxiety and depressive disorders, knowing how common and devastating they can be for so many people.

During my training period, I was also introduced to OCD treatment, which gave me great insight into how devastating the disorder can be — and how fulfilling it is to overcome.

Throughout my treatment approach, I particularly focus on evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), aiming to use research-driven approaches that have demonstrated proven results in improving one’s quality of life. These strategies include mindfulness practices and grounding exercises to help manage distress while remaining present in your life.

Therapy Philosophy

My practice is focused on producing direct and measurable improvements in the lives of others, and I approach therapy in a results-driven manner. Reflection and insight can improve your life most when paired with steps that you actively take to change your current situation or way of thinking. To accomplish that, we will maintain continued and collaborative efforts around your primary goals even as we navigate any week-to-week stressors that may emerge along the way.

My aim in treatment is to provide a space for growth that offers you more than merely feeling better during our sessions. Instead, I want you to reclaim your fully lived life. I do this by providing a friendly, warm, and light environment where you will find an empathetic guide and listener to help you get the results you need. You’re doing your best—let’s make you better.

Get To Know Me Beyond the Therapy Room

Humor is a core value of mine, both inside and outside therapy sessions. I am patient and adept at recognizing strengths you may not see in yourself. My non-traditional journey to becoming a psychologist has honed my resilience and growth mindset, which I aim to encourage in others.

Outside of work, I am a movie enthusiast and love a good drama, comedy, or any film that sticks with me. Following the pandemic, I try my best to see a new film each week in a theater. I'm also a major foodie with a motto of trying anything twice, including any and all desserts. My office boasts a rotating collection of realistic plastic food that tends to bewilder or amuse; I’ll leave that judgment to you.

I Encourage You To Seek Therapy

Therapy offers an avenue for understanding and healing from mental health symptoms and general stressors, paving the way for a healthier, more joyful, and more productive life.

Poor mental health can impact every facet of your existence. I’m here to help guide you toward a life of restoration, healing, and peace. Let’s talk.
