How Can Our Anxiety And OCD Intensive Outpatient Program Benefit You?
Though conventional therapy is effective and sufficient for many seeking help, intensive therapy provides the frequency, consistency, and potency needed to target the most interfering concerns, including difficulties that may have been present or worsening for years. The extra time during sessions allows for deeper exploration than is typically possible during standard outpatient sessions.
The frequency allows us to maintain a consistent and intensive therapy "dosage" that helps address significant issues. Recurrent extended meetings establish the treatment as a high priority, giving your recovery the full attention that it deserves.
We work with our clients to identify their most pressing concerns and then help build their skills to face those fears and improve their abilities to handle distress. Concentrated therapy such as this can greatly enhance self-confidence and self-awareness. Importantly, it is an active treatment with practice taking place both during and in between sessions. With this program, your challenges can give way to feeling reinvigorated.
What To Expect During Intensive Sessions
Our typical Anxiety and OCD IOP includes:
The first session spans 150 minutes (2.5 hours), and can include an initial evaluation interview, formulating a treatment plan, psychoeducation, and creation of an exposure hierarchy as we begin the therapeutic process.
Each subsequent intensive therapy session also lasts 150 minutes, for an equivalent of three standard 50-minute sessions for each intensive session.
Sessions are typically scheduled 3-5 times a week on weekdays, with consideration for a reduction to 2 times per week as treatment progress is demonstrated.
Notably, our IOP services are unique as compared to many other programs in that we exclusively utilize 1-on-1 sessions with a licensed clinical psychologist, ensuring personalized attention and focus from a doctoral-level professional.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with an emphasis on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), is the main treatment approach used with people who struggle with anxiety and OCD. Sessions are tailored toward your particular needs.
Using ERP within an IOP treatment setting allows you to practice more exposures within each session. The additional time also allows greater opportunities to process the exposures and manage any thoughts, feelings, or compulsive urges that emerge with them.
Our approach also integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) principles, including the use of mindfulness strategies and the identification of core values to motivate you to continue forward. Furthermore, when appropriate, the IOP treatment may go beyond the therapy room, including “field trips” to help you navigate exposures in real-world situations and scenarios.
For specific cases, house calls may also be incorporated, particularly for people dealing with disorders such as agoraphobia or OCD symptoms that are triggered by features within their home environments. Taken together, our tailored approach ensures that you not only face your concerns and challenges head-on but also develop effective coping mechanisms for ongoing forward progress.
As you learn these skills and begin to incorporate them, you will be able to re-engage with life on your terms rather than be driven by distress.
What Can You Gain From Our Anxiety And OCD Intensive Outpatient Program?
The primary goal of this specialized treatment is to dismantle the pervasive cycles of avoidance, reassurance-seeking, and compulsive behaviors that, though momentarily soothing, increasingly disrupt your daily existence. Our anxiety and OCD IOP can help you:
Reclaim control over your life
Identify avoidance patterns and compulsive behaviors
Confront and break the negative cycles holding you back
Develop heightened self-awareness and resilience
Discover effective ways to manage distress via mindfulness and grounding techniques
Sometimes, when we struggle with a challenge for so long, we begin to lose hope and accept it as our new normal. Anxiety and OCD IOP can help you break free from the constraints of these struggles, allowing you to reconnect with what truly matters to you.
Why Anxiety And OCD Intensive Outpatient Treatment May Be The Right Choice…
-
Anxiety and OCD IOP can help you take back your life. Given its intensive nature, IOP treatment takes motivation, dedication, and an additional upfront time commitment as compared with typical outpatient therapy. It is usually not a final solution itself, with treatment typically shifting to standard outpatient sessions once sufficient progress has been made. However, if you want or need to make progress right now, an IOP treatment provides the means to tackle the hardest challenges that are impacting your life.
-
you have tried other forms of treatment but do not seem to be making the progress you had hoped for or expected.
your distress and interference have continued or even grown. In some cases, this may be due to the severity of what you are facing; in other cases, it may be because you were not previously able to dedicate the time necessary to complete treatment effectively.
you are ready to prioritize your treatment and your well-being.
-
you are not able to commit time and effort to several longer sessions each week. IOP services require a higher level of commitment to attend and participate, which may include pausing or changing other typically higher-priority tasks, including school or work.
you will not be able to actively engage in practice between sessions. The goal is for the focused treatment to help you make improvements now, both inside and outside the therapy room, so that your concerns no longer interfere significantly with your life moving forward.
